1 Test

Chloramphenicol 1% Eye Ointment treats acute bacterial conjunctivitis, often known as red eye. This condition causes redness, swelling, irritation, and discharge in one or both eyes. The ointment provides direct antibiotic action, helping to stop the infection and reduce uncomfortable symptoms. Suitable for both adults and children over the age of 2, it offers fast and effective relief.

Each 4g tube contains chloramphenicol 1% w/w, which is applied three to four times daily for up to five days. Although symptoms often begin to improve within 48 hours, it’s important to complete the full course to ensure complete recovery.

How It Works

Chloramphenicol blocks the bacteria’s ability to produce essential proteins. As a result, the bacteria stop multiplying and die off naturally. This action helps clear the infection and restore comfort in the affected eye. Since the ointment remains in the eye longer than drops, it offers lasting contact and better overnight coverage.

Why Choose Chloramphenicol Eye Ointment

This ointment delivers targeted treatment right where it’s needed. Unlike oral antibiotics, it avoids systemic side effects and focuses on the eye. Furthermore, it’s a convenient option for patients who struggle with eye drops. You only need a small amount per application, making each tube cost-effective and practical for short-term use.

Additionally, it’s available without a prescription as a Pharmacy (P) medicine in the UK. However, a consultation with a pharmacist is required to ensure it’s suitable for your symptoms.

Important Note

Avoid wearing contact lenses while using this product. If symptoms persist beyond five days or worsen, seek medical advice. Always follow the instructions provided by your pharmacist for safe and effective use.

How Does It Work?
